Childhood in Wroclaw and its change

Events after 1989 have redounded to changes in various aspects of life. New opportunities appeared and—above all—easy accessibility to many products. This resulted in a noticeable metamorphosis, also in the upbringing and behaviour of preschoolers. Formerly, a book was basic to education and a fun object for children; it had an influence on thinking and developing creative imagination. Nowadays, all kindergartens have a computer, and as kindergarten teachers notice: „Today, children know more, they have an extended vocabulary, but they are impatient and have trouble concentrating”.

The thirty-year-old people of today remember their childhood with a great amount of joy and with a certain melancholy. The once carefree time of childhood is always mentioned as something happy and nice. But hidden behind that there were great efforts of their parents. Fortunately, long queues for meat, dream TV or a pair of shoes as well as for a monthly allotment of the drink „Bobo Frut” and other products for children—then regarded as rarity—have gone.

Description of the Exhibition

The first part of the exhibition showed places kept in mind by people who lived in Wrocław. The second part was to show the atmosphere of the 1980s by several symbolical items and possibilities of creativity.
